Why Our Amazon Lodge Is Different

Unlike many Amazon tours, our experience is designed for travelers who prefer small groups, personalized attention, and authentic wildlife encounters. We intentionally keep our groups small, with a maximum of 5 travelers per guide, allowing everyone to enjoy a more relaxed experience, ask questions, observe wildlife quietly, and receive individual attention throughout the expedition.

One of the biggest differences between our experience and many other Amazon tours is the location of our lodge. Yakumama Amazon Lodge is located almost 2 hours by boat from Iquitos, deep inside the Peruvian Amazon. The farther you travel from the city, the less human activity you'll find and the greater the opportunities to observe wildlife in its natural habitat.

Comfortable Private Accommodation

Every room is private and includes a private bathroom, comfortable beds, and mosquito nets. Falling asleep surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest is one of the highlights of the experience.

Electricity

Our lodge is powered by solar energy. Electricity is normally available during breakfast, lunchtime, and every evening from approximately 6:00 PM until 11:00 PM, allowing guests to recharge phones, cameras, and other electronic devices.

Starlink Satellite Internet

The lodge has Starlink satellite internet available for guests. Because of the remote rainforest location, occasional interruptions may occur. We recommend using it mainly for messaging, checking emails, and staying in touch with family rather than for work or large file transfers.

Mobile Phone Coverage

There is no mobile phone coverage at the lodge. During the boat journey along the Amazon River, Claro generally offers the best signal. Once we enter the rainforest area surrounding the lodge, mobile service is no longer available.

Health Recommendations

Vaccinations are optional for this tour. Since all guests sleep in private rooms equipped with mosquito nets, many travelers complete the experience without additional vaccinations. However, if your doctor recommends any vaccines for travel to the Amazon, you are welcome to follow that advice.

Please keep in mind that the tour includes jungle walks, boarding and leaving boats, uneven surfaces, heat, humidity, and other activities that require a basic level of mobility and physical effort. For safety reasons, we do not accept children under 5 years old or elderly travelers with limited mobility or who require constant assistance to move around.

If you have a chronic illness, relevant medical condition, physical limitation, or have recently undergone surgery, you must inform us before booking. This allows us to evaluate whether the tour is suitable for you and explain the participation conditions clearly. In some cases, we may request medical clearance or recommend a more accessible option.

What Should I Bring?

We recommend bringing lightweight clothing suitable for a tropical climate, light-colored long-sleeved shirts, comfortable footwear, insect repellent, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and any personal medication you may need.

It is also essential to bring your own flashlight, either handheld or head-mounted, especially for night walks and moving around the lodge after dark. Flashlights are not provided, so each traveler must bring their own. We also recommend bringing spare batteries or a rechargeable flashlight.

During the rainy season, it is helpful to bring a raincoat or poncho. For walks in wet or muddy areas, we provide rubber rain boots, so you do not need to bring your own. We only recommend bringing comfortable socks to wear with them.

Important Information About Your Amazon Tour

Activities described as Wildlife Spotting take place in areas where the chances of observing pink river dolphins, caimans, anacondas, sloths, monkeys, toucans and many other Amazon species are generally higher. However, all wildlife lives freely in its natural habitat, and sightings always depend on weather conditions, river levels, the season, and the animals' natural behavior. For this reason, wildlife encounters can never be guaranteed.

Please note that some activities and schedules may change depending on seasonal conditions or safety decisions made by your guide. The Peruvian Amazon has two main seasons:
  • High-Water Season (December–May): ideal for navigating flooded forests, exploring remote waterways, and increasing the chances of spotting birds and pink river dolphins.
  • Low-Water Season (June–November): offers longer jungle hikes, better fishing opportunities, and access to beautiful Amazon sand beaches.
Our goal is always to complete the planned itinerary whenever conditions allow. Every expedition is unique because the Amazon rainforest is a living ecosystem where nature cannot be controlled. That is precisely what makes each adventure authentic and unforgettable.
